15 Tips, tricks and techniques for diamond painting

Diamond painting is a fun and addictive hobby that can be extremely rewarding when done correctly. It is therefore important to apply our 15 tips and tricks!

Tip 1: Choose the right motif

Tip 3: Smooth out a wrinkled cloth

When you start diamond painting, place it on a large, flat surface and start from the top. This causes the cloth to rise when you move it, instead of sliding down.

Tip 5: Illuminate the canvas

Use a portable light source, such as a light pad that you can slide under the canvas, or a folding lamp to help distinguish between dark colours or to direct more light onto the canvas.

To ensure that nothing sticks to the corners of the canvas, tape the corners with tape.

Tip 7: Remove static electricity from waxing.

This may seem like a no-brainer: Keep a sheet of dryer sheet while sticking to remove static electricity. The round and square stones stick better.

Tip 8: Remove air bubbles in the canvas

This tip is very important to remove air bubbles from your canvas and damn your painting. To remove the air bubbles, take your little girl and make slits on the surface of the cloth. Make sure you press gently so you don't cut the cloth.

Tip 9: Filing

If your round and square stones don't stay straight, file themzigzag patterns. This works better for larger blocks of the same colour, but you can also use it for smaller parts.

Tip 10: Organize and label your materials.

Always make sure your rhinestones are organized and labeled. If you diamond paint regularly, it's a good idea to invest in an organizer from the drugstore or get creative and use everything from empty egg cartons to store your diamonds.

Tip 11: Apply light pressure

Be careful when placing the diamonds on the canvas. Too much pressure will cause the wax to come offtool marker sticks to the diamonds, which can affect their shine.

Use square stones for a better finish. Round rhinestones may be easier to pick up and place on the canvas, but will not produce the same effect as square rhinestones, which fills all the corners and gives more shine than the round rhinestones.

Round stones are easier to place than square stones, so we recommend using round stones for beginners and square stones for experienced hobbyists.

Tip 15: Replace wax with DIY glue

Usage own glue instead of the wax that comes with the diamond painting kit. The own glue is more durable and does not come off as easily as the wax. To make glue at home, take an old, dry glue stick and remove the glue. Make sure the glue is not too sticky, rub and knead it to soften the texture. Add ink to give it colour if you want.
