5 Tips: What material do I need for my painting technique?

Material painting technique

What material do I need to practice my painting technique? We would like to answer this question in this blog article.

The use of the right and high-quality resources is of great importance to make your work of art a true eye-catcher.

What material do I need?

Which material you choose depends on thepainting technique that you will practice. When you choose oil paint, you need different material than for watercolor painting. In addition to the canvas and/or canvas, you also need paint and brushes. You can also use extra attributes to make it a bit easier. Consider, for example, a palette or an easel.

Tip: Also take a look at our Paint by Numbers range with motifs for adults and children.

A palette of wood is available for oil painting. There are alsodisposable paper palettes that you can throw away after a few uses. This is extremely useful to use for your artwork.

For acrylic paint you can use the same palette as for oil paint, but we do not recommend that. This is because acrylic paint dries very quickly. We recommend that you simply use an old board. You can then easily rinse the paint. Put the plate in the dishwasher or clean it under the tap.

Please note, first remove the acrylic paint with a cloth before rinsing it off.

For acrylic paint, you can also purchase a special 'Stay-Wet' palette. This is a palette with a top layer of non-absorbent paper with a sheet of tissue paper underneath. Both papers are placed in a plastic container with water, which keeps the paint wet and therefore does not dry.

If you use a lot of thick paint, an old board is the most useful. You can also use an old board for watercolor painting, but a plastic palette with all the holes is also useful. All kinds of washes can be created in the cups.

Which easel do I need?

Easels are commonthe most expensive part of the extra attributes to paint. An easel must be easy to adjust and stand firmly on the legs. A portable field easel is useful for outdoors. A table easel is ideal for working at a table.

So you can choose from a painting easel, table easel and a field easel.

  1. Cotton rags
  2. Kitchen paper
  3. Pencil withcharcoal
  4. Adhesive tape
  5. Sponge
  6. Scissors
  7. Eraser

Which paint do I need?

Acrylic paint is sold as standard in tubes of 40 ml, but the commonly used colours are also available in larger tubes, such as 115 ml and 150 ml. The 250 ml and 500 ml bottles of acrylic paint are very useful.

You can also choose a different type of paint in a desired format. We always recommend that you buy more expensive paint and not opt for cheap paint. This advice will be of great benefit to you while painting!:)
