The Age of Modern Art
The term modern art, or in technical terms: modern art, brings together an impressive wealth of styles. Opinions and specialized publications differ regarding the precise period that falls under modern art. This refers to the art of the 20th century from approximately 1900 to 19001970. Contemporary art emerges from modern art. It extends to the present in which we currently find ourselves.
But its creation after 1900 is not the only criterion that a work of art must meet to belong to modern art.

Characteristics of modern art: individuality wins
Although there were movements such as Dada, Fauvism or Surrealism with their styles, there was noa uniform style - on the contrary, each artist formed a highly individual, unmistakable style of his own with idiosyncratic means of expression.
And this is exactly how modern art can be recognized:
- It is subjective in the sense that it does not rely on traditional worldviews
- It is original in the sense that it expresses its own ideas in a specially developed formal language.
- It is authentic because it is not oriented by rules like the theory of proportion, but tries to reflect the essence of things themselves.
- It is open to the interpretations of those who watch it..
Forms of modern art
With the technical innovations of the 20th century, the possibilities of art production suddenly multiplied: forms such as photography, installation art, sculpture, collage, audio art and video art could be created with entirely new means.
Ephemeral forms such as performances, which are often performed by only onesmall audiences were seen live, were able to acquire cult status through documentary photography. This has given rise to several types of modern art.
