Painting flowers: tips and tricks
Tip 1 for painting flowers: Be patient
The first tip is the most important one we have for you: Because as we all know, you are not immediately very good at something. Your first flower paintings may not be perfect yet - but hey, you've already finished a few! You can build on that! Let's get started. Be patient and loving with yourself and accept that some detail may need some practice. You'll be amazed at how quickly your flower drawings will improve and how you'll feel more confident with every painting you create!
The beginning is always the biggest hurdle. Don't expect a perfect image, but approach drawing flowers with fun, curiosity and aopen mind. More important than the result is your courage to just start!

Tip 2: Start with simple flowers
Hydrangeas? Orchids? Roses? There are undoubtedly many flowers that are so enchantingly beautiful that you immediately want to put them on paper or canvas.
But especially the flowers with their many details and subtleties make your beginning more difficult than it has to be. Our tip: start with flowers that have simple shapes!
Tulips, snowdrops or sunflowers, for example, are easy to paint.
Tip 3: Painting realistic flowers
There are many ways to paint flowers. Ask yourself if you really want to make a photorealistic drawing. Or if you don't feel confident placing your flowers on the page in a more abstract way.
Flowers often look beautiful with simple strokes and areas of colour, you can simply sketch them with fineliners or use pastels or pencils to highlight only the most important areas.
Do some research on flower paintings by famous artists. You'll see that even Monet or Van Gogh didn't paint flowers with much attention to detail - and today they are works of art worth millions!

Tip 4: Practice drawing!
We still recommend that you draw regularly! Take some time every day to make a little sketch. Drawing trains your eye - and "seeing" is one of the most importanttools to later be able to portray any motif the way you want. You will quickly notice progress in learning to draw - and it is great fun to fill the sketchbook with different impressions and images!
Tip 5: Draw from the original
If you want to paint flowers, paint without a photo, but go and draw in a park somewhere. Here you can see the details much better and study the subtleties and shapes much more closely than in a photo.
You can also view the flower from different sides and perspectives.
It is also a special oneexperience to paint directly in nature - or to take beautiful flowers home to study 🙂
