Step 1: Prepare your canvas 🧼

Before framing, remove dust from the canvas. Use a clean microfiber cloth or clothes roller. Then press the stones firmly with a Diamond Painting roller for a smooth result.

Extra tip: Place a sheet of baking paper over your painting before using the roller - this protects the stones.

What framing options do you have? 🖼️

There are different ways to frame your work. Here you'll find the most popular options, including pros and consdisadvantages.

✔️ First seal, then frame?

Are you unsure whether you should first finish your Diamond Painting with a protective layer? This is not necessarily necessary if you hang the work behind glass or clamp it tightly in a frame. But do you want to hang it without protection, or are you afraid of stones falling off? Then you can first seal with a special lacquer or glue.

  • ✔ Provides extra strength
  • ✔ Prevents stones from loosening
  • ✔ Makes the work shine

Note: Only use products that dry transparent and are suitable for Diamond Painting.

✔️ Standard photo frame

The easiest way is a regular list from, for example, IKEA or Action. Make sure you measure the size correctly – without the border or colour code when you cut it off.

What if the list is too big?

  • Use coloured paper or fabric as a background.
  • A passe-partout provides a luxurious look.
  • Cover remaining edges with masking tape or paint.

Good to know: Clip frames (without glass) are perfect for Diamond Painting – no pressure on the stones.

What if the list is too small?

  • Carefully cut away the edge or legend with a craft knife.
  • Tape your work to the back of the frame with double-sided tape.

Myth: Glass would take away the shine from the stones – that's not right! It actually protects against dust and it still sparkles.

✔️ Custom list

Do you really want it perfect? Then have a custom list made. You measure your canvas, choose the material and you're done. More expensive, but you get a professional result without tinkering.

✔️ Second hand list

Go to a thrift store! There you often find beautiful frames for little money. A lick of paint and voilà: a unique frame for your work of art.

✔️ DIY frame made of cardboard or wood

Do you really want to get creative? Then make a list yourself! Use sturdy cardboard, slats or scrap wood to build a frame. Decorate it with paint, string or decorative paper for a personal touch.

  • ✔ Budget-friendly and unique
  • ✔ Fully customizable to your style
  • ✔ Fun craft project for the whole family

Ideal for small formats or if you want to make something special as a gift.

✔️ Stick on canvas

Paste your Diamond Painting onto a blank canvas (available at hobby stores). This way you don't need a frame and it looks nicetight.

  • Trim the edges neatly.
  • Apply glue to the back and allow to dry slightly.
  • Stick the canvas neatly to the canvas and press with a roller.
  • Fold the edges over if necessary and attach them to the back.

✔️ Magnetic wooden boulders

These are super handy and stylish. You clamp the canvas between two wooden slats at the top and bottom and hang it up. No glass, no hassle!

  • Cut away the empty edges.
  • Attach the frame and hang it on a nail or hook.

Which size Diamond Painting fits in which frame?

Not sure which frame format to choose? Here's a handy overview:

  • 30 x 40 cm: usually fits in a standard A3 frame (without border)
  • 40 x 50 cm: often custom work or a large poster frame
  • 50 x 70 cm: suitable for photo frames from larger hobby stores

Tip: Always measure your canvas without colour code and margins - unless you want to leave them visible.

Conclusion: make your Diamond Painting shine

Whether you choose a simple frame, a wooden boulder frame or a creative DIY idea: with the right approach you can turn your Diamond Painting into a real eye-catcher on the wall.
