Although we usually think of acrylic and oil paints as only suitable for canvases, many artists enjoy working on paper. It's more affordable and versatile than canvas, and especially useful if you use the paint-by-numbers printable PDF for adults .

To paint on paper with acrylic or oil paint, look for a thick paper (similar to watercolor paint). The type of paper may vary. As long as the paper is sufficientweight, both smooth and rough surfaces can take a beating.

Are the free canvases numbered?

Of course they are, that's what coloring with numbers is about. You get three versions of the motif per motif. First, you will see the motif in the PDF to download and print in the final format. Moreover, you get the motif as a numbered template and then the coloring pages have a third version, which is the guide of numbers and colours.

So you can decide for yourself what type of paper and colour you want to use to colour the free template.

Paint by Numbers Free Templates: How Long Does it Take?

To estimate the time it will take to complete the painting, keep in mind that the Paint by Numbers templates are not intended to be done quickly. Since it's supposed to be fun, don't worry if the painting isn't done quickly. It will take some time.

Especially for the Paint by Numbers for children that you can download for free, a longer time should be allowed, because the child may need several attempts to complete the final painting.

There are a few factors that will affect how long it takes to complete:

  • The size of the painting template
  • The age of the person
  • The level of the person - beginners take a little longer
  • The technique of dyeing

If we want it to be opaque, we only need one swipe. In any case, we will generally make fewer brush strokes than someone who wants the result bold and chunky. The fewer swipes, the faster the painting will be finished.

Since the paint is for coloringdrawings are water-based acrylic paint, the painting dries within ten to fifteen minutes. The thickness of the applied paint can influence this.

Which colours are suitable for children?

You want your children  to get excited about Paint by Numbers for kids printable and download the free PDF from us. But how do you proceed?

What colours do you give your children? There is really only one answer: paints that do not contain toxic substances.

These can be non-toxic coloured pencils or fiber tip markers, or our non-toxic acrylic paint. In any case, we recommend that you always stay close to the children in case they need help or support and also to supervise them.

Especially in the beginning, some children need ideas to stimulate their own creativity. You also shouldn't be so precise with the numbers of the colours on the template, because sometimes children just want to use a completely different colour than indicated in the design.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if the right paint was used, what matters is that thechildren spend their time on a creative hobby. It gives enormous satisfaction to have made a painting and it can greatly increase self-confidence. As a parent, you should not expect the motif to be identical to the template. Art offers a lot of room for self-development and interpretation, which children especially need.

At what age do children know colours?

A child's ability to see and distinguish colours develops by the fourth month. By this time, you have probably noticed that your baby likes bright colours. The attraction to these shades is normal forbabies, and seeing these colours helps them distinguish nuances later in life. The time it takes for children to learn colours varies like any other stage of development. No two children are the same, but children recognize shades of colour around the age of 18 months. This development continues until the age of two.

  • By age three, most children should know at least one colour.
  • At the age of four, a child should be able to recognize different colours.

Some children can recognize even more colours, but a clue to whether or not your child is on the right track in his development is the ability to recognize at least one colour by the age of three. At the same time that children begin to recognize colours, they also begin to develop the ability to distinguish sizes, such as large and small, and shapes.

Manieren om kinderen kleuren te leren

Schilderen met jouw kinderen

Je betrekt ze interactief bij het onderwerp. Begin met felle kleuren zoals geel of groen, omdat jonge kinderen van nature van deze pigmentenkeep. You can focus on one colour per week to make it easier. As toddlers grow, you can talk about how colours mix and form new colours.

Let your children actively learn colours

Fill a bucket with colorful objects. Choose individual items in solid colours so as not to confuse the children. Name a colour and let the children pull the correct object from the bucket. Then reward them (with a healthy treat) when they do well to motivate them.
