Horses are often painted or drawn. This is probably because many children care for a horse and also enjoy horse riding.
We'll explainhow to draw or paint horses and foals, including photos. We usually use a preliminary drawing for this. With the basic shapes, you can make the horse drawing quite easier.
You can also choose to paint horses using numbers and lines. Does that seem like fun to you too? Then take a look at our Paint by Numbers horses range.

Painting or drawing a standing horse
The horse drawing is first a very rough basic drawing with straight shapes and important contours. In the next step thecontours in more detail and work them out in the last step.

Standing horse sideways from the front
We recommend using the same pattern: first the basic drawing, then the detailed preliminary drawing to create the finished horse drawing.

Painting or drawing a grazing horse
When the horse eats, it must extend its long neck all the way down to reach the ground.

Horse galloping
While a horse runs, not all of its legs are on the ground at all times. Depending on the speed, it may even happen that all four legs are in the air at times. When the horse gallops, the horse's mane and tail blow in the wind.

Running horse
When the horse walks slowly but steadily, it has two legs extended forward and the other two extended back.

Tricks and horse dressage
In dressage, the horse is supposed to do what the human tells it to do, in the most disciplined and controlled manner possible. In this example, the horse lifts its right front leg.

Painting on drawing a foal
Foals have particularly long and thin legs, which makes them look rather clumsy and shaky. The shoulder blades are also quite pronounced.

Drawing or painting a horse and rider
This example shows a dressage rider, but there are other riding styles (Western, for example) that differ in the rider's clothing and saddle, and the way the horse walks.
