Who is painting with watercolor suitable for?
Painting with watercolor paint is considered a demanding painting technique that fascinates even experienced painters with its great versatility. But even beginners can quickly feel a sense of satisfaction when painting with watercolorsreaches.
Watercolor paint dries very quickly. This has the advantage that you can quickly hold a finished image in your hand. However, this also means that subsequent changes are difficult to implement.
What material do I need to paint with watercolors?
First, the right paper. The most suitable paper for watercolor painting is special watercolor paper, which is available in different sizes, weights and surfaces, individually or as painting paper. If you prefer to use painting boards or canvas, that is also possible - but you must use a suitable watercolor primer beforehand.

Second: the right brushes. Special watercolor brushes are suitable for applying watercolor paint, e.g. so-called red sable brushes with natural animal hair. They absorb a lot of water and paint and release both well. They are also verydimensionally stable. In the meantime, however, there are also high-quality synthetic brushes that can be used for watercolor painting. Watercolor brushes are available with a wide variety of brush tips: pointed/round brushes, flat brushes, wash brushes, fan brushes, trailing brushes, stencil brushes, and so on.
And thirdly, of course, the right paints, which should be of high quality from the start.
How do you mix watercolor paint?
You don't really need a lot of the right paints, at least to start. One of the great advantages of watercolor painting is that it can be beautifulmixed. But because watercolor painting often needs to be done quickly, it's a good idea to use at least a basic set of 12.
To get a feel for blending, it's helpful to practice a bit beforehand and become familiar with the colour wheel and the concept of complementary colours. It is preferable to apply the paint from light to dark, because shades that are too dark are difficult to lighten.
To maintain bright colours with a lot of shine, it is recommended never to mix more than three colours together.

How do you paint with watercolor paint?
An important difference when painting with watercolor paint compared to other painting techniques is often the absence of white. White areas in watercolor paintings are created by not painting (the so-called negative technique). For connoisseurs of other painting techniques, this requires a bit of reconsideration.
Because watercolor paint is less opaque, it is best to paint in the same way as you mix the paint: from light to dark. The short drying time allows you to work well with multiple layers - it is important that you apply the new layers quickly so that the underlying layers of paint do not dissolve again.
