Step by step instructions for painting glass
- Choose a colour: Consider whether the paint for your purposes needs to be waterproof, dishwasher safe or food safe. If you are painting with children, make sure it is easy to work with.
- Choose good brushes: Boar bristle brushes give a striped effect. Choose the brush size that suits your design. Don't want to use animal materials? Then choose animal-friendly synthetic brushes.
- Clean the surface: The glass must be clean,be grease-free and dry. Use dishwashing liquid or grease remover and warm water. Work with gloves so as not to leave new fingerprints.
- Tape off the glass: Tape off any areas you don't want to paint with masking tape.
- Apply primer: If your paint needs a base coat, let it dry for at least an hour. Follow the product instructions for this.
- Apply the paint: Now you can unleash your creativity. You can correct small mistakes with a paper towel. Don't forget to clean your brushwhen you use a new colour. If you want good opaque and bright colours on your glass, apply another layer of paint. Make sure the first layer has dried sufficiently.
- Drying: Now the paint must dry, in the air or in the oven. Remember that rapid changes in temperature can cause the glass to crack.
