A huge leap in the development of humanity to modern humans took place about 40,000 years ago. In the Swabian Alb, in the caves of the Danube, Ice Age man began to create figurative representations of animals and people, as well as the world's first musical instruments.
Figurative works of art and playing music on flutes were already attested in the Paleolithic culture of the "Aurignacian".
Already 40,000 years ago, the first representations of people, animals and mixed beings emerged in caves on the edge of the Swabian Alb (Baden-Württemberg), which testify to the origins ofthe modern human spirit in the form of art, symbols, music, rituals and various beliefs.
The originals of the following replicas come from excavations in caves on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb. They were carved from mammoth ivory 35 to 40,000 years ago - in the so-called Aurignacian period - and are the oldest figurative art in the world.
It is amazing that 36,000 years ago it was already possible to produce melodic instruments in acoustic perfection.
The discovery of the "Venus of the Hohle Fels" in the deepest layer of the Aurignacian (40,000years ago) was a big sensation. It claimed three records at once:
- An oldest sculpture in the world.
- Oldest figurative representation of a human in the world
- Oldest three-dimensional representation of a woman in the world.

The "Leeuman" has been repeatedly linked to shamanism. In a trance, the shaman would communicate with supernatural beings. Perhaps the artist who created this image some 32,000 years ago had personal trance experiences.
