Painting photo frames - 4 Fun Ideas

Painting photo frames

If you paint photo frames, they become beautiful eye-catchers. We have 4 creative ideas for painting photo framesbrought together in our blog article.

Photo frames are basically made of three main materials:

  1. Wood
  2. Plastics
  3. Aluminum

Plastics and aluminum are not so easy to paint, because paint has difficulty adhering to metallic or plastic-like surfaces. You need special binders for this. Often it is not worth it and it is extremely difficult to paint this.

Fortunately, you can still design these surfaces creatively by decorating them or using a spray paint.

Painting wooden photo frames

Coated wood must be sanded in any case if you want to paint it completely again. If you just want to paint a pattern on an existing surface, sanding is not necessary.

If you have a wooden frame that has already been painted or coated, you should always check whether the existing coating can be painted over. This is not always the case with all coatings - but it usually works.

If you are specifically looking for a picture frame to paint yourself, it is best to go for untreated wooden frames. These frames are usually the easiest to paint.
